Dolphiner Awakening Art Series (DAAS) was established in 2019 as a reformatted version of the Dolphiner Therapeutic Art Program (DTAP). DTAP was trademarked under the Trademark Act 1976 and the Trademark Regulation 1997 in Malaysia in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Bee Tin, a registered art therapist from Malaysia, created DTAP in 2009 by using the art therapy approach in school holiday programs and therapy sessions for children. She discovered that children were able to use art as a tool to express their distressing situations, and parents were able to better understand their children’s emotional state of mind and behavioral issues, leading to a healthier and more caring relationship with their children.
After years of experimentation, Bee Tin compiled all the activities she conducted with children into the Dolphiner Therapeutic Art program, which was eventually upgraded to the Dolphiner Awakening Art Series. The program aims to bring out the best in children, making them autonomous and responsible adults in the future. It uses simple activities that are supported by the understanding of the Expressive Therapies Continuum.
Bee Tin chose the dolphin as the symbol for this program because dolphins are creative, playful, fun, smart, and have healing properties. She hopes that the instructors conducting the program can bring out all of these qualities of the dolphiner during the guiding process. The program has been successful with children aged 4 to 12, adolescents aged 13 to 18, and adults aged 19 and above who are experiencing life’s crises or turbulence. “Corporate art” was also included in the program to serve corporate employees.
All of the programs under DAAS are conducted by Dolphiner Instructors (DI), who have been trained with art therapy knowledge and skills. As DIs do not have accredited qualifications from the government in art therapy, these programs are developed to help trained preventive art therapy workers or practitioners serve the community under the supervision of qualified and registered art therapists.
In the year 2022, a new program called Trauma-Informed Art Therapy (TIAT) was introduced to DI’s to support individuals in the community who have experienced daily traumas that have impacted their ability to reach their full potential in life.

The Art Therapy (Community) Academy was established in 2009 and became a community-focused company in 2013. The management office is located in Penang and serves as the headquarters for all the Dolphiner Awakening Art Centers (DAACs). The Academy has been committed to serving the community who suffer from emotional, behavioural and relationship issues through the use of Art Therapy.
In 2013, the Dolphiner Therapeutic Art Program (DTAP) was introduced to schools, child-care centers, and other community centers to fulfil the needs of creativity and innovation in the community. Unfortunately, the mainstream education system tends to prioritize academic performance over the benefits of arts in individual development.
It’s time to acknowledge that the left-brained education can only go so far. To live a fulfilling life, creativity and imagination must be integrated into daily life, as they cultivate problem-solving skills. Therefore, it’s essential for educators, parents, and our community to raise awareness of this crucial aspect of development in our children.
DAACs were authorized by ATA to become healing, therapeutic, and educational centers in the community, aiming to compensate for the lack of fun, creativity, and imagination in mainstream education. The DAACs have well-designed programs that offer therapeutic services to the community, from children to the elderly.
All the DI’s (Dolphiner Instructors) underwent rigorous and comprehensive art therapy training with a registered art therapist. They embarked on a self-exploration, self-growth, and self-understanding journey to help clients experience the joy of therapeutic art-making.
